A Brooksville Florida Welcome!

This Is Meant First And Foremost As A Community Activity Website Designed To Guide You and Enhance Your Visit to Hernando County Florida and Brooksville.

How Big is Brooksville?

While the official City of Brooksville has a total area of 5.0 square miles (12.9 km2), the extended borders of Brooksville reach as far east in Hernando as past I-75 at the beginning of Ridge manor, all the way north to Rt 39 (which is up to citrus almost to Floral city!), all the way south along Rt 41 to County Line Road (did you know that the Hernando Airport Industrial Park is part of Brooksville too?!) … and all the way west along Rt 50 is Brooksville on both sides until you reach Mariner  when the south side of 50 turns into Spring Hill, but the north side of 50 is still Brooksville almost all the way out to 19! The Hernando West Side Library is Brooksville and even Istachatta is in Brooksville.

Brooksville is huge and it’s also got the distinction of being the exact geographical center of the state of Florida! (Florida Hernando County 12 mi (19 km) north-northwest of the City of Brooksville 28°40′53″N 82°27′36″W)

What’s This Site About?

We post events to the calendar page preferably and primarily there for your enjoyment, education, entertainment and cultural enrichment.  If you know of an event in Brooksville, you can submit your Brooksville event by calling 352 232 1678.  The entire site is designed with the idea that there are a great many areas in, and surrounding the City of Brooksville that are of interest to you that you may not be aware of.  The walking tour of Brooksville is just one such area.  You can see some of the houses on the tour on our site, and many more which are on the actual tour which are not here.  As of this writing there is also a monthly Market on Main Street and Farmer’s Market where you’ll find fresh local produce, plants, local hand made goods from jewelry, pottery, baskets, clothing items, artwork etc to knives and letter openers (as well as antiques, books, DVD’s, tapes and other items).  There’s an art gallery with constantly changing work inside City Hall, and Dana is hosting a rotating monthly art show with a monthly reception, cheese, wine & hors d’ oeuvres for each artist at her shop called “Easy St”. Call her for the next scheduled event there at (352) 848-0177 from 11am until 5pm except Sun, Mon and Tues.  The City of Brooksville still has a few antique shops – one of which is also a printer (combined business) Bobby Meadows Printing and Antiques for those with a knowledgeable eye interested in investing. There’s also this great place called Great Stuff (no kidding!) so OVER stuffed with stuff that you’ll be lost in there – 2 buildings and a whole big yard full of GREAT STUFF.

Restaurants?

Plenty! But really good, interesting ones? Hehe – this site does real reviews based on word of mouth and tasting, not paid placements. No restaurant pays for a listing here – Brooksville Restaurants.

There is also Bike Night every other Thursday night at Coney Island Drive Inn for those who love the allure of motorcycles, and on the first Tuesday of each month Kenn “E” (for Elvis) Grube, famous Elvis impersonator, performs live at Coney Island Drive Inn as well.

You’ll find plenty to do in the City of Brooksville, the seat of Hernando County.  There are tennis courts, the main library with free wi-fi and computers for internet access, and free wi-fi at the Rising Sun Cafe and Main Street Eatery – all within a block of the courthouse.

Overall the character and flavor of the old town downtown prevails in the City of Brooksville and the surrounding area.  We would like to keep it that way and we invite you to come and visit.
